The palace was part of town’s folklore. Consisting of two houses, realistically, it was more a holiday home than a palace. Once a year property would be spruced up. Owner and his friends would arrive for holiday. Music, dance and drinks would flow at night. One year revelries ended abruptly.
A metalled road separated his home from the sprawling palace property. On sleepless nights, he would watch. from his window, fairies play on the mist covered palace ground. While walking by the ground, he would eagerly look back for any sighting of fairies. He never saw anything or anyone, barring occasional men cutting grass and mowing ground.
A death, he learnt, ended all bash forever. The owner caught and shot a friend found in bed with his favorite dancing girl. Case was hushed up. Family members never returned. Many now live overseas. Also died his childhood romanticism around palace property.
