The place with low stools, a few low tables used to be their common place to hang out. Abandoned by previous owners, new owners have not taken possession yet. Boys found it an ideal place away from city crowds and their prying eyes.
“Guys I have good news,” Rohit said flashing a piece of paper in his hand as he walked in “I have been accepted to study law in the US.”
“Congratulations!” Mohit said, reading the letter carefully. Hiding his jealousy, he tried to be cheerful, “let us drink to success; someone get some bear.”
“Sure! tell me when and where?”
“Don’t want a police case before I get my papers. Won’t let my dream crash by a momentary foolish act.”
“Don’t act so wise, brother” Mohit said with a tinge of impatience, “you are already acting like a foreigner.”
“I know man, if I fail, you get a shot at being partner,” said Rohi bitterly, “who knows, you may have informed the police yourself.”
”yaar get some food and cold drinks, then fight amongst yourself about partnership position” said a a friend to lighten the rapidly degenerating atmosphere.
But damage has already been done.
