“Who is that boy sitting alone in the graveyard,” I asked a neighbor, “Does he do drugs?”
“That’s Billy, he is harmless.”
“Kind of creepy, isn’t it?”
After a long search I have found an affordable house. Only problem is proximity to the cemetery; separated by a thin strip of road and a wire fence from the neighborhood.
Billy didn’t know that he was the center of attraction. All he cared about was to tell his dad how he misses him, he is being good, and he is studying hard to go to college.
Billy’s father died in a battlefield, overseas.

Dear Abhijit,
No doubt Billy finds comfort in the close proximity of the cemetery. Nicely done.

Why do we assume the negative (creepy) instead of wondering about the story behind the scene? Well done, a combination of cynicism and sadness.

Hey, your Billy is a bit like my Bernard! Good for him for visiting his father. Cemeteries can be quite peaceful.

So many assumptions made, when Billy is only there to visit his dad’s grave.

Nice contrast of two points of view. What is creepiness to one is undying love to another. This reminds me of how weoften judge people, who seem strange to us, very harshly, whereas if we got to know them better and became familiar with their mannerisms and motives, we might admire them.

Exactly. Everyone looks at things in their own way. On one side that creates diversity on the other it creates problems. Trick is how we manage difference. Thank you for reading.

I love the way you turned this piece around the end. Guess there will always be the few who find the gossip more interesting than the truth. Kind of sad really. Very good read.
